America has the highest number of health care workers infected by the Coronavirus

The Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) spoke about COVID-19 infections among the health sectors in the region. She pointed out that the Americas have the highest number of health workers infected by COVID-19.

Carissa Etienne, Director of the organization, said that almost 570,000 “health workers in the region have fallen ill.” She added that about 2,500 have died from the disease. She pointed out that according to this data, “we have the largest number of infected health workers in the world.”

Etienne said that women were the most affected. They represent about three quarters of health care workers infected with the virus. She added that the United States and Mexico account for 85 percent of all the Coronavirus deaths among health care workers.
