The World Bank warned Latin American governments about the need to prepare their populations. The organization says the region must get ready for the “fourth industrial revolution”. Which has been accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

This process involves technological innovation and requires improving the service sector’s productivity, as well as investing in human capital and reconfiguring the region’s labor regulations.

In a new report, the bank concludes that the rise in automation technologies is threatening to destroy a substantial number of jobs and lead to mass unemployment. Because of the COVID-19 crisis, 149 million jobs have been lost in the region.

Many jobs are at risk due to the lower external demand, quarantines, business credit problems and financial crises, the study warns.
