Actor Arnold Schwarzenegger announced a donation of one million dollars to fight the fires that are registered in Los Angeles, Southern California (USA).

In a post on his social networks, which are echoed this Wednesday by American media, the interpreter of ‘Terminator’ said that his donation will be distributed between the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, the California Fire Department Foundation and the Los Angeles chapter of Habitat for Humanity.

“I don’t like it when companies or the rich ask their fans to donate for them,” the actor, who was governor of California between 2003 and 2011, wrote on Instagram.

Schwarzenegger also announced the sale of T-shirts with an image of him to raise funds for those organizations.

The actor joins in this way a series of Hollywood celebrities, such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Beyoncé or Eva Longoria, who have allocated donations to fight the fires, as well as companies such as Disney and Netflix.

This Wednesday, a new uncontrolled and rapidly advancing fire broke out in Los Angeles County, forcing the evacuation of thousands of people, after days of significant progress since a wave of devastating fires broke out that claimed the lives of at least 28 people.

The Hughes fire was declared this Wednesday morning in northern Castaic and in less than two hours swept just over 2,000 hectares (5,000 acres) driven by the strong winds that hit southern California, the California Fire Department (Cal Fire) reported in a statement.

This new fire breaks out after a week of significant progress in the containment of the historic fires that reduced entire communities of Los Angeles to ashes since January 7 and that are still active.

The Palisades fire, which destroyed more than 9,300 hectares, has managed to contain itself by 68% since its start 15 days ago. For its part, the Eaton, in the city of Pasadena, swept more than 5,600 hectares and is 91% extinct, Cal Fire said.

At least one person has died and 24 others have been injured in the city of Zaporiyia, in southeastern Ukraine, after the launch of four Russian missiles this morning against a residential area of this city, relatively close to the front.

The governor of the Zaporiyya region, Ivan Fedorov, published images of the consequences of the attack in which several destroyed apartments and damaged buildings are seen.

In addition, Russia is still advancing on the Pokrovsk front, in Donetsk, where in recent hours it has launched more than 60 attacks.

“The enemy attacks the city again. At least four explosions were heard in Zaporiyia,” Fedórov said shortly after the attack on Ukrainian television, who explained early in the morning that medical services were attending to the injured at the scene of the impacts.

Zaporiyia had more than 700,000 inhabitants before the war and is located in the homonymous region of southeastern Ukraine partially occupied by Russia.

The city has been regularly attacked by Russian forces since the beginning of the war.

The offensive is particularly intense in the south and southwest of the city of Pokrovsk, where Russian troops continue to approach the town.

The Ukrainian General Staff has assured that Russian forces lost 1,340 soldiers on Wednesday throughout the front line.

The United States Government began this Wednesday the deployment of about 1,500 soldiers on the border with Mexico, thus taking the first step to fulfill the promise of President Donald Trump to “close” the passage of migrants and strengthen border security.

The White House spokeswoman, Karoline Leavitt, explained this Wednesday in statements to journalists that the president signed the executive order for that deployment on Monday and the Pentagon later confirmed that it has already mobilized to comply with it.

The acting Secretary of Defense, Robert Salesses, said on Wednesday that he has authorized three actions that will begin today. First, the sending of those troops and helicopters and their respective personnel, as well as intelligence analysts to assist in the detection and control work.

According to his figures, this represents a 60% increase in the number of active forces on the ground since Trump took office on Monday.

The Pentagon will also provide military air transport to support the deportation flights of more than 5,000 “illegal aliens” from San Diego, California, and El Paso, Texas, detained by Customs and Border Protection.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), according to its statement, will be responsible for enforcing the law and the State “will obtain the necessary diplomatic authorizations and notify the host country.”

The 1,500 troops will be added to the 2,200 active military and the 4,500 Texas National Guard reservists who are already deployed at the border.

As CNN explained, the new troops will perform functions similar to those of the personnel already present, focused on supporting the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) with logistical and administrative tasks, such as vehicle maintenance and data entry.

During his first term (2017-2021), Trump ordered the sending of 5,200 troops to the border with Mexico.

This Monday, hours after assuming the presidency again, he signed an executive order that instructs the Pentagon to mobilize the troops necessary to achieve “complete operational control of the southern border of the United States”.

The order also establishes that Trump will evaluate in the next 90 days the possibility of invoking the Insurrection Law of 1807, which would allow the military to assume law enforcement functions within the country, in a role closer to that currently played by the security forces.
